If you are dealing with the maximum plane-parallelism, i.e. the parallelism of the end faces to each other, then draw-down chucks are used. The workpiece is automatically drawn down into the chuck a little along the axis of rotation. In the process, it lies on the stop on the inside of the chuck and aligns itself that way.
